We had a thread going on back pain before our site got hacked so I decided it's time to start another. In one way or another I think all who have TMJD, are affected with back pain, whether it be cervical, thoracic, or lumbar.
My problems all started with a car wreck. Broad-sided by someone going 70mph. I know I was lucky to live through it but somedays, I wonder, if it is all worth it. Living with daily pain is hard, no matter what type of pain it is.
I suffered for 15 years before I gave into surgery. My first lumbar fusion was in 2000. They fused the L5/S1 disc. The doctor said he dug it out in pieces, that it was totally calcified. Caused from the disc tearing and healing over so many times. During the times it would tear, I would be down on my hands and knees to even get out of bed. Electric shock like you could never imagine. It would stay like this for a couple weeks until it healed, then I would be alright until I bent wrong and tore it again. In March of 2000, it tore again. This time it didn't heal. In October, I gave into surgery. That was the most horrific surgery, EVER!!! When I woke up, my right arm was totally dead. Due to degenerated discs in the neck and laying too long one way. It took three months for me to get back the use of my arm. Anyway, after I got over the postop pain, I felt my back was better. Two years later,(2002) I blew out the L4 disc. That led to another back fusion. Different doctor, different state. This doctor took out the hardware from the L5 disc and fused the L4/L5. He said it was a mess in there, but I have come to the conclussion, doctors always say this and how are we to know any different? Now I am dealing with more back pain and of course here we are different doctor, different state again. The doctor here says I am not fused from the first surgery. It really
because if I am not/wasn't fused, why the hell did the second doctor take out the hardware? This is where all the different doctors come in, all with different opinions. I am suppose to be scheduling a myelogram in the near future, which I have a feeling I will be doing shortly. I know it is going to be more back surgery and I am not sure I have the energy. You definitely have to get yourself psyched up and be ready to stand the pain. Uggh!!! The first time getting out of bed is a killer and I can't get that part out of my mind.
Anyway here is a start to the back pain thread. I hate to think of all the people who suffer with back pain but together maybe we can find information that will help each and everyone of us.
