I wonder if bee venom injections would help anyone. Here's a story of resolved hip pain...

Frida, an old friend, was limping when she visited my family one weekend. Every step for her was painful and climbing stairs had become torture. Her medications made her sick to the stomach and the physical therapy was hardly effective. She was starting to consider surgery! When we met that weekend, her usually optimistic mood was much dampened.

"Would you like to try honey bee venom injections", I offered. "Whats that?" She said, looking puzzled. "Bee venom has been used to reduce pain for centuries," I said. "There are records of Egyptians and Chinese using it from ancient times. It is still widely used in China, Korea, Japan, Russia and Europe. But in the US, for some reason, its hardly known. You can use this treatment for arthritis, osteoarthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, autoimmune conditions and many other ailments. There are very few contra-indications. Many people think they are allergic to bee venom but what they are really allergic to is wasps and yellow jackets, not honeybee venom. Actually, when somebody has an itching, tenderness, redness and other signs of inflammation after a bee sting, its the normal reaction and doesnt mean youre allergic at all. Very few people have real allergic reaction to honeybees.

Nowadays there is even a way to extract the bee venom from bees without harming them. This extracted venom can then be made into an easily administered injection. To reduce pain, the bee venom injection can even be mixed with local anesthetic. The shots are even given directly into acupuncture body points making the treatment more effective."

Frida was becoming intrigued and wondered how to get bee venom. I gave her more facts and asked her several more questions to make sure she knew what she was getting herself into. I told her about the reactions she may have and what supplements she needs to take still, she was impatient and wanted to get an injection right away.

I always keep some bee venom at home since I had needed some to heal a torn meniscus I had a year ago. I was about to go for surgery, which was recommended by an orthopedic surgeon as my only option to be pain free and get back to my yoga practice. But something was holding me back. After failing physical therapy and Novocain injections in trigger points, I gave myself a series of bee venom injections, completely healing the teared (broken) meniscus. Encouraged by that I healed my 91 years young mother-in-law from her persistent back pain and my wifes persistent knee pain.

After giving Frida an initial small dose of bee venom, and waiting for 30 minutes to make sure there was no generalized reaction, I gave her several small injections around her hip. A day later she called and told me that her hip was red, itching and swollen. She sounded frightened.

"First of all, your body is having a great response," I said. "Its going through a healing reaction. It is normal to feel itchiness and initially some mild pain. If you can tolerate it, dont take any medications. You can apply ice on the itching points, or if its really bad, put some meat tenderizer or Preparation H on the inflamed area."

Frida was reassured and even called me the next day to say: "You know Michael, it already feels better."

For the next five weeks, Frida visited us every weekend. As her pain went away, the trip from her home in Staten Island to ours on Long Island was a lot easier and it made our friendship a lot more active. Even though this was not an optimal treatment regimen. For best results, I prefer to give bee venom injections 2-3 times per week.

It was her husband Eugene who finally noticed that Frida had stopped limping and was completely pain free six weeks later.

I hate to say it, but I felt a bit disappointed; now that her treatment was completed, I will again see Frida on only special occasions
