Hello. My name is Terri and I am here enjoying the information on your site and looking for peer support. I have had TMJ for 18 years and have been stabilized with treatment for a long, long time only to have my life turned upside down having to switch doctors. It's been a while since I've researched TMJ online and it's kinda sad that so much HAS NOT changed since this all started for me way back when!

Welcome to our site Terri. I hope maybe you will find something here that will help you. I am also disappointed at how much nothing has changed in the field of TMJ. It seems they haven't made much headway in this field. I don't know hopefully someday it will. Let us know if we can help or assist you in your search in any way.
I am curious if you have had any TMJ surgery?

Hi Michelle,
Last couple of weeks were very rough and I am just now getting to spend some time online again. Thanks very much for the response. Yes, I have had surgery on the left TMJ twice in 1993 and on the right TMJ once in 1994. I initially had osteochondroma tumors removed from both joints simultaneously and the 2nd surgery on the left side was for a slipped disc and it's been a nightmare since. I also have had cervical spinal fusion due to deterioriation from the pressure put on my neck from the TMJ and have cervical stenosis from that surgery now. Does anyone here have the severe muscle dysfunction? I can take the pain much more than I can take the weird symptoms from muscle tension/spasticity. Terri |

Dear Terri,
I have a lot of muscle spasms in my jaws, neck and shoulders. I went to massage therapy for while which seemed to help some. I am sorry you have had such rough weeks here lately. I hope you have a good Fourth.
