Last night we still had a night in the lower 30's, so we had to go out and cover up as much "stuff" such as peonies, lilacs, new roses, wisteria blooms and some items in the garden. We planted some small Giant Thujas for a wind break around our house, which grow three feet a year. I am hoping we have some type of spring this year.

After having a late, long, rainy spring we are finally getting up in the 90's, which is average for this time of the year. Although most of the Midwest got waaayyyyy too much water, I think we got above the normal average, which is helping out my newly planted items in my garden. After three years I finally have a few black berries on my thornless blackberries. My blueberries bushes continue to be small, but I am hopeful in a few years I will have more than enough for my family.

A couple of weeks ago we picked blueberries at a local blueberry farm and paid 30.00 for what we picked. It seemed high, but compared to the prices for a little pint in the grocery store they were not. I am pretty disappointed that we didn't find any good strawberries to buy. I think the rain and cool spring got the best of them, so Steve and I decided next year we will again try to plant them. We did plant them a couple of years ago, but made a big mistake. We didn't lay down weed barrier to help keep the weeds out. Also we didn't clip the runners were the plants join across the rows and replant them. Steve just left them and that is why we had a weed problem. We were unable to hoe in between the aisles. I guess it is live and learn. I am glad this lesson only involved some strawberry plants.

I am sorry to hear that as I am sure it affects your mood and pain levels a lot. I hope this winter is not very bad. Hang in there it will get better.

You are so right Claire about Christmas. Wow, it really isn't that far off. I better get to thinking about it.
