Before my last TMJ treatment with orthotics (splints), my joints hardly made any sounds when I swallowed. Now, after treatment, every time I swallow they make loud sounds, as though my condyles forcefully and quickly squash (or crash on) the tmj and ear tissues. I hate to swallow because the sounds are loud, scary and very distracting. Anybody hear TMJ sounds when they swallow, or have an idea what might cause them.
Also, before the last treatment my mouth opening was about three and a half fingers (48-49 mm). Now I have no problems opening four fingers (52-53 mm). I was told that the MRI image in that open position shows the condyle abnormally below the fossa (beyond a normal range). Anybody know what this could mean as far as the state of my TMJs? Thank you for any insight.
