Holistic approach of Ayurveda

Ayurveda
takes a distinctive perspective on human body and diseases. According to its
principles, the five elements of nature –panchabhutas (earth, water, air, fire
and ether) are part of human body and these elements are manifested in three
forms called humours or doshas – kaph, pitta and vata, ny irregularities in
these humours will lead to diseases, say Ayurvedic texts. Another peculiarity
of Ayurveda is that while treating diseases, it takes into account not only the
body but also the mind and spirit. According to Ayurvedic practitioners, our
emotion or state of the mind too affects the body and emotional imbalances can
lead to an imbalance in humours too.
